Giving

text "When we give, we gain a greater sense of connection with people and community."
The gift of volunteer time, expertise, or financial contribution is a generous way to help our non-profit Association and to support the GATE Program. Our Activities would not exist if it were not for the generosity of parents, family members, friends, and local businesses. Please help us to inform and enrich your journey in raising gifted children. We welcome your financial support, as well as your volunteer time for our various events or fund-raising initiatives.

DONATIONS

Donations provide unrestricted funds, that allow us to support the GATE Program in ways that we cannot do through funds raised via gaming (casinos). Donations allow us to support Professional Development opportunities for the teachers in the GATE Program, so that they may obtain more knowledge and expertise for the classroom. They also allow us to pay honorariums to the many wonderful speakers who present valuable information at our informative, education sessions for the gifted community.

PERSONAL DONATION

 Donate now!

We will send a tax receipt for donations over $20.

EMPLOYER ‘DONATION-MATCHING’ PROGRAMS:

Many workplaces offer programs to match the charitable contributions of their employees. Why not inquire if your workplace offers such a program so you can stretch your contribution even farther!

GIFT OF SHARES:

Gifts of publicly listed securities include stocks bonds and mutual funds. Albertans who donate publicly listed securities to a charity do not have to pay capital gains tax on the growth of those shares. This became effective in May, 2006.

GIFTS OF REGISTERED ASSETS:

A charity of your choice can be named as a beneficiary of either an RRSP or a RRIF, and your estate will receive a tax receipt for the value of your gift.

LIFE INSURANCE:

There are at least five different options to give the gift of life insurance, resulting in a significant contribution at relatively little cost and they are eligible for a charitable tax receipt.

CHARITABLE TRUSTS:

A charitable remainder trust may be created with cash or securities. The remainder interest of the fund is donated and held in trust for the charity.

There are many mutually beneficial options for contributing. If you have any questions please contact us at info@gatecalgary.ca

MENTORSHIP

A fun and informal way to get involved is to be a mentor to a GATE student. Typically these interactions happen via phone or e-mail. When teachers identify what type of expertise is needed, we search our mentor database or put out a call for volunteers. If you can spare a few minutes to share your experiences with a GATE student, we’d like to know! Send us a note at info@gatecalgary.ca and we’ll add your name to our database. It’s a great opportunity to share your expertise and unique experiences!

CASINO VOLUNTEERS

Every 18-24 months, we require volunteers for casino gaming events–volunteers provide ‘behind-the-scenes’ support and they are not part of the casino staff, such as card dealers, etc. Volunteer shifts are easy and can be a lot of fun! It is a wonderful opportunity to develop friendships when you meet fellow parents of children who are gifted. Casino fund-raising is very effective to help us support the GATE Program. In fact, each individual parent helps to raise approximately $1,800 during their shift! Altogether, the funds are directed to our schools to purchase advanced resources that enhance gifted education. The funds raised benefit your children directly and are crucial to support extraordinary learning initiatives. We need approximately 36-40 volunteers to act in various roles, such as cash counters, cashiers, and chip runners. Please volunteer to help. Watch the Events schedule for our upcoming Casino–more details will be provided.

GATE PARENT ASSOCIATION REPRESENTATIVES

We are always looking for people who are able to offer their time and energy to help run the activities of the GPA. You do not have to be an expert in giftedness. We are fellow parents like you who are busy with similar issues of work and raising our families, but we care about our children and our gifted community…we want to give back.

Please consider volunteering for a role within the GATE Parent Association, so we may continue the work that we do.
