Casino Dates for 2023 Announced!

We are happy to report that we have been given the dates of Thursday, June 8, and Friday, June 9 at Cowboy’s Casino.

We have an immediate need for a Casino Chairperson.

We cannot run our casino without one.  Casinos typically bring in $65,000-$80,000 in funding for our GATE schools/students.  In order to file the necessary paperwork to secure our spot, we must have a Casino Chairperson designated with the AGLC.

In terms of time commitment, a few hours will be required over the next month to get paperwork in order.  After that, the position requires about 15-20 hours in the month prior to the casino.  The GPA executive are committed to supporting the person that takes on this role.

If you are interested, please email us at info@gatecalgary.ca

Every 18-24 months, we require volunteers for casino gaming events – volunteers provide behind-the-scenes support and they are not part of the casino staff, such as card dealers, etc. Volunteer shifts are easy and can be a lot of fun! It is a wonderful opportunity to develop friendships when you meet fellow parents of children who are gifted.

Casino fund-raising is very effective to help us support the GATE Program. In fact, each individual parent helps to raise approximately $1,800 during their shift! Altogether, the funds are directed to our schools to purchase advanced resources that enhance gifted education. The funds raised benefit your children directly and are crucial to support extraordinary learning initiatives.

We need approximately 36-40 volunteers to act in various roles.

Please volunteer to help at our next one!

Volunteer Positions

General Manager: Responsible for the overall continuity of the casino. Some data entry experience is required. Can fill in for any volunteer positions for a short period of time if needed.

Banker: In control of the cash and chip inventories. This position is mostly data entry and should be staffed by someone who can use a computer mouse!

Cashier: Redeems players’ chips for cash. Little data entry required.

Chiprunner: Delivers chips from the Banker to the game tables as required. Will count chips with the gaming floor staff as required. A fair amount of data entry is required.

Countroom Staff: Will sort and use money counting machines to count money. Some data entry required. (*late-night shift)

If you cannot see a shift that matches your availability (or are not yet sure of your exact availability) but would like to still help out, please email us at info@gatecalgary.ca
