NEW! PE Session on Resilience

Online Parent Education Session

Monday, November 9, 2020
6:00 pm – 8:00 pm
Join us for a special online presentation on RESILIENCE by Amy Shaw, psychologist with Affinity Psychological Group.

These days, students are experiencing greater levels of stress, anxiety, and depression, and our current pandemic is not helping. Why do some students thrive while others struggle? The key may be resilience. Resilience is the capacity to recover from or adjust easily to change or challenges. How can parents help their children to develop the resilience required to focus on their studies and excel despite today’s climate?

While many of our sessions are aimed at younger students or all students, this session is particularly relevant to junior high and high school students. Our speaker, Amy Shaw, is looking to understand the questions parents may have about their child’s resilience. If you have particular questions or concerns, please email them to us before November 2nd, and Amy will attempt to address them in her presentation.

Click on the following link to register: https://gatecalgary.ca/meeting-registration/ You will receive an email with the Zoom link to participate in this session closer to the session date.

NOTE: This event is free, however we encourage donations. Your donation helps to cover the cost of future PE as well as other GPA initiatives such as teacher professional development. Please click on the DONATE link below.

Casino Fundraiser

The casino fundraiser is our biggest fundraiser. All casinos were put on hold earlier this year, and we are very pleased to have our new date. As always, we rely on the help of our amazing volunteers to make this event happen.

Our next casino fundraiser will take place on Thursday, January 21 and Friday, January 22, at Elbow River Casino. We will send out a link soon to sign up for specific roles. For now, if you know you would like to help, please send us an email and we will add you to our volunteer list.

General Fundraising Updates

PURDYS: Due to challenges with COVID-19 protocols and for the safety of our members, the GPA has elected not to hold our annual Purdys chocolate fundraiser this winter. We will revisit this in the new year and hope to run our Easter Purdys fundraiser again if it is safe to do so.

INDIGO: We ARE still running our Indigo campaign. This is a great campaign that earns us 15% on every dollar spent! Electronic gift cards make great no-contact gifts. Purchase details and links are below.

SPRING CLOTHING DRIVE: We are also hoping to run a spring fundraiser through Value Village. Please start setting aside your spring and summer items for donation!

We are in the process of investigating other ways to raise funds that do not involve the need to bring volunteers together for the purposes of sorting and distributing products. Any suggestions for fundraisers that do not involve distribution are welcome!
