Meet your new GPA!
Thank-you to everyone who came out to our Annual General Meeting (AGM) in September, where we elected our new executive. The following people will serve in their positions for two years:
- President: Sandy Dewald
- Vice President: Leanne Stewart
- Treasurer: Michelle Johnson
- Secretaries: Sue McLarty & Brandi Dyck
We would like to extend a huge thank-you to our past President, Marilyn Oshry, for her service to the GATE Parent Association (GPA) over the last six – yes SIX – years! Marilyn continues to assist the new executive, and will continue to serve on our committees.
We also welcomed new volunteers to our Board, who will each serve a one-year term:
- Casino Chair: Sofia Cao
- General Fundraising Chair: Sherry Mah
- Parent Education Chair: Priya Kharat
The position of Web Communications Chair is still vacant. If you have an interest in helping us to develop and maintain our website and social media presence, please contact us.
News and Events
Along with our AGM in September, we also had a parent and child information session on the topic of Social Dynamics. Thank-you to all who attended for your enthusiasm and participation!
Our new VP and Parent Education Chair are hard at work planning future education sessions. If you have ideas about topics you’d like to see covered, please let us know.
If you’re new to GATE and looking to connect with other GATE families, be sure to attend our events!

PURDYS FUNDRAISER
The GPA and Louis Riel School Council Purdys fundraiser was such a great success last Christmas, we’re doing it again! If your child attends Louis Riel School, stay tuned to your email for important ordering information and deadlines. Brochures will also be sent home in backpacks. If you’d like to volunteer to help with the fundraiser, please email us.
If you attend a GATE school other than Louis Riel, and your school is interested in doing a Purdys fundraiser with the GPA, please email us. We’d be happy to work with the school councils of our other GATE schools on a Purdys Christmas or Easter campaign.
MENTOR DATABASE
Our GPA “Mentor Database”, created by GATE parent Toni, exists to provide powerful learning experiences and opportunities to bring working professionals into the classroom. If you have knowledge that you feel would benefit the classroom, please contact us to be added to our mentor database.
