GATE School Open House and Information Sessions

Both GATE high schools will be holding information sessions for Grade 9 students and their families, while Louis Riel (Grades 5-9) will be holding its annual open house. Students and families are encouraged to attend to learn more about the programs and offerings at each school.

Henry Wise Wood – Grade 9 Open House

Date: Monday January 29, 2024
Time: 6 – 8 pm
Address: 910 75 Ave SW Calgary

Look for the GATE Parent Association table. We will be there to meet families and answer questions.

Louis Riel School Annual Open House

Date: Thursday February 1, 2024
Time: 6 – 8 pm
Address: 9632 Oakfield Dr SW Calgary

Look for the GATE Parent Association table. We will be there from 7 – 8 pm to meet families and answer questions.

Queen Elizabeth High School – Grade 9 Advanced Placement (AP) Information Session

Date: Tuesday February 13, 2024
Time: 6 – 7 pm
Address: 512 18 St NW Calgary


2023-2024 GATE Student Enrolment

There are a total of 501 students enrolled in the GATE program in the 2023-2024 school year. GATE students are in Grades 4 through 12 at four CBE schools: Hillhurst School, Louis Riel School, Henry Wise Wood High School, and Queen Elizabeth High School. Registration deadline is January 31, 2024.

UPCOMING PARENT EDUCATION SESSIONS

The Community Education Service (CES) is offering the following sessions for parents and families. Sessions are offered at no cost but registration is required. *Click on the Poster/PDF icon below the correct session to register*

February 7, 2024: Mental Health for Highly Sensitive Teens Highly sensitive teens are often misunderstood by parents and teachers as they often have stronger emotional reactions. In this presentation, learn why this happens, and the necessary tools required to help these teens manage their emotions so they don’t become derailed.

February 7, 2024: The Impact of Autism Spectrum Disorder on Parents: How to Alleviate Parenting Stress This presentation will discuss: • Factors that may impact parent’s Mental health • Types of stressors and their impact on Parents and siblings • Coping Strategies to alleviate parenting stress/burnout

February 21, 2024: Managing Challenging Behaviours Through this presentation you will learn about the crisis cycle and how to intervene at a different moment to reduce the risk of an intense emotional outburst. You can use these strategies with anyone in your life, despite their age.
